Barnstorm CIC Child Protection Policy

 

1. Introduction

At Barnstorm CIC, the safety and welfare of children is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive, learn, and express themselves creatively. This policy outlines the measures we take to protect children from harm and ensure their well-being during their time at our camp.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all staff members, volunteers, contractors, and visitors at Barnstorm CIC. It covers all activities and interactions involving children, both on and off camp premises.

3. Legal Framework

Our child protection policy is guided by the principles and requirements of UK legislation, including but not limited to:

4. Definitions

·         Child: Any person under the age of 18.

·         Staff: All employees, volunteers, and contractors involved with the camp.

5. Roles and Responsibilities

6. Code of Conduct

·         Report any concerns about a child’s welfare to the DSL immediately.

7. Recruitment and Training

·         All key staff members and volunteers must undergo a thorough background check, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

·         Staff members and volunteers should endeavour to complete child protection training before starting their roles and participate in ongoing training.

8. Recognising and Responding to Abuse

·         Staff members must be aware of the signs of abuse and neglect, which can include physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect.

·         Any concerns or disclosures of abuse must be reported to the DSL immediately.

9. Procedures for Reporting Concerns

·         Any concerns about a child’s welfare should be reported to the DSL without delay.

·         The DSL will document the concern, investigate as necessary, and take appropriate action, including reporting to local authorities if required.

10. Confidentiality and Data Protection

·         All information regarding child protection concerns must be kept confidential and shared only with those who need to know.

·         Records must be stored securely and in compliance with data protection regulations.

11. Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or more frequently if required, to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with legislation. Any changes will be communicated to all staff members and volunteers.
